You have been waiting for these first moments with your newborn for 9 whole months. The excitement was palpable – preparing your nursery, coming up with names, and wondering what they’ll look like. Maybe you even decided to keep your baby’s gender a surprise, and you’re coming up with a long list of names! Your maternity session was a wonderful evening where you got pampered with hair and makeup, then spent an hour with your partner celebrating this new life that’s coming. Now your little one is here, and you cherish every time that newborn scent drifts your way, and love those warm snuggles in the rocking chair.
With your newborn session, I spend a lot of time capturing those little details of your little one. You’ll never worry about forgetting how long her lashes were, or the way his lips curved into a little smile as he was sleeping. But I also include portraits with the family so that you can cherish the moments together.
You might have your hair and makeup professionally done – it’s so nice to feel pampered during that time, and not have to worry about getting yourself ready. You can sit, enjoy your coffee (even if it’s decaf), and maybe even just listen to music. This is a time to relax and enjoy the moment.
I love photographing these first moments with mom and dad. The time is such a whirlwind, and being sleep deprived it’s so easily forgotten. But we stop and take a breathe, smell that newborn scent, and celebrate this beautiful new life together.
