A session with a newborn boy
Sometimes a session comes at the perfect time, with the perfect family, and I had one of those when I photographed this sweet rainbow baby in Dallas for his newborn portraits. A rainbow baby is one born after a miscarriage, stillbirth, or an infant who passed due to natural causes. The analogy being that this baby is the “rainbow after the storm”. I find that many families love to honor their baby who passed, as they also enjoy and celebrate these new moments. A way of remembering and moving forward.
I met this mom at a Dallas hospital a few years ago, as a volunteer working with Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep. I was called to the hospital to photograph their son. So when I got a message from her that she was due with another baby, and asked if I could photograph some special portraits for them, my answer was a resounding yes. We celebrated their new baby, and I captured all of the little details. We also honored their son who they lost two years earlier, with some special images including his urn and a special bear. I included some rainbow imagery and colors in his session to celebrate how special he is – but I also just captured him, because he is special on his own as well.
