Newborn portraits with a beautiful sky themed nursery.

I got to take this sweet newborn’s pictures up in Denton a few months ago. I met his parents, who own Renovate4Less, when I was looking for someone to paint my own nursery. I then reconnected with them later on for another project. I was ecstatic to hear that they were expecting their first little baby! Jackson was such a cutie, and he slept so well.

We started our session with poses on the beanbag, using colors that complimented his nursery. The gray and navy color scheme of the room really worked well for creating portraits that flowed.  I used mostly neutral colors, but then added the blues in.  Using the nursery to plan out the colors in the session ensure the portraits will go beautifully with the rest of the decor, so they will be hung on the walls and not just kept on a cell phone.

Once we were done with our posed portraits, we got some parent and baby shots as well. I always get capture each parent individually, and then together, with their little one.  If we have siblings, I also include them and capture them with their newest little brother or sister, as well as a whole family picture.  This is most often the first family picture with everyone together that isn’t just a cell phone shot, and I think it is so important.

Then, we finished up the session in the nursery. This is one of my favorite parts about offering in-home newborn portraits, because it captures the family as they truly are.  As a new parent, you probably spend lots of time in that room, gazing at your beautiful little one and playing with them, reading to them, and watching them sleep.  If you have special items, we can incorporate them into the session at this time.  Special bears, or blankets, or other toys, might be incorporated.  We can also capture the beautiful nursery that was created to welcome your baby into your home!
